2020欧洲杯网址APPExpand your view of journalism through an investigation of non-traditional news sources and essential, yet under-represented, voices in the populace.
In this course, students will take a deep dive into reporting on underserved communities and examine both the issues and sensitivities involved when covering diverse voices. Through reading work from prominent writers of diverse backgrounds and engaging in discussions with journalists involved in advancing traditionally underrepresented groups, students will gain a better sense of the challenges our society is facing and the role newsrooms play in illustrating the complexities of these challenges.
Students will expand their understanding of journalism, its purpose, communities it does or does not reflect and/or serve and the possibilities for change. At the end of their term, students will finish the class with a more accurate assessment of the world around us and feel empowered to fight injustices through media.

The course will dive into the fundamentals of journalism and gain an understanding of both the topics being reported about and the journalists doing the reporting. Students will then take this approach and examine the reporting industry through the lens of diversity and inclusion.
2020欧洲杯网址APPStudents will learn about reporting from new voices across print and digital media, understand its relationship to traditional media outlets and examine the possibilities for change in the future of journalism.
Students will hone their acquired journalistic skills through their own investigations into diversity. As part of the curriculum, students will create their own pieces, exercising creative thinking, independent judgment and creativity as a journalist.
Possible virtual site visits include: Museum of Chinese in America, Tenement Museum, EPIC: The Irish Emigration Museum in Dublin and virtual tours of leading journalism schools.
